This is the halfway point of this journey. I thought I’d like the halfway to be something very special to me and that is Teazer World Tea Market.
If you recall on Day 5, I wrote about the Tower District. In the tower district is one of the main hot spots where all ages and all types of demographics are welcome. When I’m asked about Teazer, I usually answer “It’s like a locally owned Starbucks… but it only sells tea.” then they usually answer “I don’t really drink tea.” and I reply “Well, you really haven’t lived until you drink what we make.”
Worldwide, next to water, tea is the most drank beverage. However, in America, since that whole Boston Tea Party thing, I guess, Tea is not even in the top 5: there is water, then soda, coffee, beer, and milk. Tea is only drunk when someone gets sick, I suppose. Three of those five beverages aren’t even good for you in moderation while tea contains many anti-oxidants to prevent cancer and green tea, especially, to help from osteoporosis. Over the winter, I found a blend of teas that, when combined together taste very similar to eggnog and contains exponentially less fat.
Anyway, with that rant out of the way, I truly love working at a local business and getting to know people that love tea or people that bring their friends that don’t drink tea and being amazed of their drink. I’ve started to learn just by looking at the mannerisms of some people, what kind of tea would suit their personality. There is a customer that’s come by a few times and asks me “I’d like a tea that will make me feel smarter.” or “I want something to drink that will make me feel stronger.” and I deliberate with myself and the jars around me to brew a potion for the customer.
There is no other place in the world I’ve been that comes close to the atmosphere and selection of drinks than Teazer. Transplants from other cities that were former residents of Fresno wish there were a Teazer store in their places of residence. I’m happy to see that the store has become a destination for people to come and buy some tea to take back home with them that they can’t find anywhere else.
I remember being a customer to the store, I would usually bring a friend to indulge in something to drink. I probably came a handful of times over the years and never really became a regular. Now that I work there, I find a huge amount of support from Fresnans and NON-Fresnans alike through word-of-mouth (and Yelp.com).
Well, I suppose I’ll be getting ready for my work shift later this afternoon. If you mention this Tumblr to me, I’ll be sure to give you a little something to keep. :)
This is why I love Fresno.
